August 1 - 31, 2022
"The apostles returned to Jesus and told him all that they had done and taught. And he said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.” For many were coming and going, and they had no leisure even to eat." ~ Mark 6:30-31 ESV
As we read farther in this passage, the people saw them and followed them and intercepted them on their way. The miracle of feeding the five thousand soon followed.
Earlier in this passage Jesus had commissioned the twelve disciples. He sent them out two by two to preach the message of repentance. It tells us that Jesus empowered them with "authority over unclean spirits." (Mark 6:7b). They "cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them." (Mark 6:13).
It goes without saying that they were likely exhausted. Jesus recognized this and invited them to rest.
This year's theme is "Rest in the Wilderness". Over the last year, numerous people have shared with us that they feel like they are in the wilderness. A place of scarcity and isolation. Some have expressed frustration, while other fear. What we know from Psalm 23, is that we have a shepherd who cares for us. In times of plenty or lack, He is our provision.
Every year our church and community of friends enjoy SOLACE, a time of rest.

SOLACE Devotional E-Workbook
REST IN THE WILDERNESS
The wilderness is a place of preparation and transformation. It is God's training ground. This year, we will explore Psalm 23. It will be a special time of prayer, fasting, journaling and growing in intimate relationship with Jesus. It will also be a time to focus on caring for ourselves as well as strengthening family relationships and friendships through the ministry of presence.
